The Fitness App That Helped Me Lose 45 Pounds At Home

Let me start by saying: I’m not a gym rat girlie.

I’m also not a cardio-loving girlie. And I’m definitely not a group fitness class girlie.

But I am someone who wanted to feel better in her body. I knew I needed to make a change — something sustainable, something convenient, something that gave me structure and flexibility. That’s when I found Future, a fitness app that pairs you with a real personal trainer who creates totally customized workouts just for you.

I’m talking tailored-to-your-goals, based-on-your-schedule, works-with-your-energy-levels kind of personal coaching. And over 14 months of using the app, I lost 45 pounds. But more than that, I gained energy, confidence, and a whole new mindset about fitness.

So, what is Future?

Future is a personalized fitness app that connects you with a real, human personal training coach who builds workouts just for you. Their coaches are often accredited, real personal trainers who have worked with athletes in the NCAA, Olympics, or have their own practice on the side. You can message them anytime, ask questions, and even get pep talks through voice notes and video messages. And yes — your coach actually checks in to keep you accountable!

Think of it like having a personal trainer in your pocket… without ever stepping foot in a gym (unless you want to).

Why it worked for me

When I started my journey getting back into shape, my goals were pretty simple:

  1. Lose some weight

  2. Build strength/muscle mass

  3. Just feel better in my body

I told my coach Blake (hi, Blake!!!) right away that I wasn’t a fan of cardio and I wasn’t dragging myself to the gym, so I needed workouts that were easy to do at home, required minimal equipment, and worked with my life.

We started with 3 to 4 workouts per week, all customized just for me. About a year in, though, as I learned more about cycle-syncing I asked Blake to start syncing my workouts with my menstrual cycle (game changer, btw). On my period? He’d assign me gentle stretches, walks, maybe a little Pilates, or tell me to just rest. When my energy came back during my follicular phase and ovulation, we’d hit strength training hard.

Having a personal trainer create customized workout plans centered around my lifestyle really felt like I was finally working with my body instead of against it.

The power of personalized motivation

Honestly, one of my favorite parts of Future was the little motivational check-ins my trainer would send me. Sometimes when I’d open a workout, Blake would leave a voice note reminding me why I started, hyping me up, or just telling me he was proud of my consistency.

Those small moments added up. They made me feel seen, supported, and reminded me that this was my journey, not anyone else’s.

And so, about 14 months later, I found myself 45 pounds down. Yep, it took me over a year to lose the weight. And honestly, I’m proud of that. I didn’t crash diet. I didn’t punish myself with cardio (I could literally never). I didn’t burn out or give up. I just stayed consistent even if that meant missing some days because life got too busy or maybe not eating the most healthy during the week. To me, it didn’t matter if I made a slip because I learned how to give myself grace and keep moving, which helped me learn to trust the process rather than the outcome.

I eventually began to see changes way beyond the scale, too. My mental health improved drastically and I found myself feeling like my mind was much more calm and thoughts were easier to navigate. I went from thinking of fitness as something exhausting and something I had to do, to seeing it as an act of self-love that genuinely makes me feel better — physically and mentally. That mindset shift alone? Worth everything.

Things to consider if you’re thinking about trying Future

  • It is pricey. At $199/month, it’s definitely not cheap. But they offer a 50% first-month discount to get started, and if you pay for 6 months or a full year at a time, the monthly amount decreases. The way I thought about it was as an investment in my health. I knew I wouldn’t be using Future forever (and I’m not anymore), so the $199/month was a temporary expense that I accommodated by reducing spending in other areas of my life for a short time.

  • Take your time choosing your coach. If your first match doesn’t click, don’t stress — you can switch! But also give them a chance to get to know your style. The relationship between the two of you is everything.

  • Be honest with your coach. Tell them when you’re tired, unmotivated, on your period, or just overwhelmed. They’ll adjust your workouts and support you in a way that actually helps.

  • Celebrate small wins. Showing up for yourself — even with one gentle workout a week — is huge.

Final thoughts

If you’ve ever felt like fitness wasn’t made for you… same. But with the right support and the right plan, it can be. Future met me where I was, and helped me get where I wanted to go.

If you’re looking for a flexible, personalized, and deeply supportive way to feel better in your body, I honestly can’t recommend Future enough!
